The Lagunen-Erlebnisbad in the centre of Willingen is the largest public pool in the Upland since its rebuild: 940 m² of water, brine pools and a children’s area without brine and a sauna garden with six themed saunas. It opens daily from 9 am to 11 pm, and a day ticket costs from € 18 for swimming or from € 29 including the sauna. This guide covers prices, facilities and the hotels within walking distance.
Best for families and groups: large leisure hotel with a pool, three saunas and day-spa packages at the in-house Beauty Lounge from € 139 for two.
The pool world consists of indoor pools, including two brine pools at 32 °C. The largest measures 420 m² and has three swimming lanes each 25 m long, so proper lap swimming rather than splash space alone. A second pool of 115 m² adds massage loungers, floor jets and back massage nozzles, and there is a small warm pool at 35 °C set in a stone alcove. The whirlpool sits at 34 °C.
Outside there are two separate areas: a 175 m² outdoor pool in the textile section, and another outdoor pool in the sauna garden, split into a floating pool with 16.5 % natural brine and an 85 m² pool with massage jets. Children get a separate pool at 32 °C without brine, with a boat channel and its own slide, plus an aqua slide park with three flumes.
The sauna garden was laid out from scratch during the rebuild and holds six themed saunas, some with a forest setting and panoramic windows. The six saunas include the textile sauna; a steam bath and infrared cabins complement the facilities. For cooling down there are an ice room with real snow, plunge and cold-water pools and experience showers. Two graduation towers and a foot pool for Kneipp treatments pick up the village’s Kneipp tradition.
If you only want to swim, you do not need the sauna rate: the pool and sauna worlds are priced separately. Since 1 September, sauna guests can use the outdoor pool again Monday to Friday from 6 pm. Check the current access rules for the area you want to use.

Children under 2 go free, and a family ticket covers 2 adults and up to 3 teenagers. Weekends and public holidays add from € 2 per person, or from € 5 on a family ticket. If you overrun your booked time you pay from € 2 for each half hour started; on a family ticket this applies per adult and teenager, with no charge for children; once you are an hour over, the next rate up would have been cheaper from the start. There is no children’s rate for the sauna world.
The complex opens daily from 9 am to 11 pm, with last entry at 9 pm. It closes once a year for maintenance, in 2026 from 4 to 13 May. It is busiest at weekends, on public holidays and during school holidays, and those are exactly the days when admission costs from € 2 more. If you can choose, come on a weekday: quieter, cheaper and with a better chance of a lounger in the relaxation area. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, opening hours are 9 am–4 pm, with last admission at 2 pm.
The complex sits on Am Hagen in the middle of the village, which puts several spa hotels within walking distance. The Sauerland Stern Hotel is directly adjacent. Also central are Göbel’s Landhotel, Wellnesshotel Bürgerstuben, the Best Western Plus Hotel Willingen and Hotel Fürst von Waldeck. It depends on the host and the guest card included. Waldhaus am See lists MeineCardPlus among its included benefits; the card covers two hours in the Lagunen-Erlebnisbad pool world, but not sauna-world admission. At other hotels, having an on-site spa does not mean Lagunenbad entry is included. The Sauerland Card issued with the visitor’s tax only gives a discounted tariff there, from € 1 less for adults.
The rebuilt complex is fully accessible throughout, which sets it apart from most hotel spas in the village, none of which publish accessibility details.
A day ticket for the pool world costs from € 18 for adults, from € 14 for teenagers aged 7 to 16 and from € 5 for children aged 2 to 6. Including the sauna world, an adult day ticket costs from € 29.
