Lagunenbad Willingen: Prices, Sauna World and Hotels

The Lagunen-Erlebnisbad in the centre of Willingen is the largest public pool in the Upland since its rebuild: 940 m² of water, natural brine in every pool and a sauna garden with six themed saunas. What the rebuilt pool complex offers

The pool world consists of three indoor pools at 31 °C each. The largest measures 420 m² and has three 25-metre lanes, so proper lap swimming rather than splash space alone. A second pool of 115 m² adds massage loungers, floor jets and back massage nozzles, and there is a small warm pool at 33 °C set in a stone alcove. The whirlpool sits at 37 °C.

Outside there are two separate areas: a 175 m² outdoor pool at 31 °C in the textile section, and another outdoor pool in the sauna garden, split into a floating pool with 16.5 % natural brine and an 85 m² pool with massage jets. Children get a separate pool at 32 °C without brine, with a boat channel and its own slide, plus an aqua slide park with three flumes.

The sauna world with six themed saunas

The sauna garden was laid out from scratch during the rebuild and holds six themed saunas, some with a forest setting and panoramic windows. A sanarium, a textile sauna, infrared cabins and a steam bath complete it. For cooling down there are an ice room with real snow, plunge and cold-water pools and experience showers. Two graduation towers and a foot pool for Kneipp treatments pick up the village’s Kneipp tradition.

If you only want to swim, you do not need the sauna rate: the pool world and the sauna world are priced separately, and the outdoor pool in the textile section belongs to the pool world.

Children under 2 go free, and a family ticket covers 2 adults and 3 teenagers. Weekends and public holidays add 2 € per person, or 5 € on a family ticket. If you overrun your booked time you pay 2 € for each half hour started; once you are an hour over, the next rate up would have been cheaper from the start. There is no children’s rate for the sauna world.

Opening hours and the quietest times

The complex opens daily from 9 am to 11 pm, with last entry at 9 pm. It closes once a year for maintenance, in 2026 from 4 to 13 May. It is busiest at weekends, on public holidays and during school holidays, and those are exactly the days when admission costs 2 € more. If you can choose, come on a weekday: quieter, cheaper and with a better chance of a lounger in the relaxation area.

Hotels within walking distance

The complex sits on Am Hagen in the middle of the village, which puts several spa hotels within walking distance. The Sauerland Stern Hotel is directly adjacent. Also central are Göbel’s Landhotel, Wellnesshotel Bürgerstuben, the Best Western Plus Hotel Willingen and Hotel Fürst von Waldeck. Having a hotel spa does not save you the entrance fee, though: access to the Lagunenbad is not included in any room rate. The only card that covers it is the MeineCardPlus guest card, good for 2 hours in the pool world and issued only by participating hosts.
