Spa facilities and children go together well in Willingen, but not equally well in every hotel. The Familotel Sonnenpark on the edge of Willingen looks after babies and toddlers (aged 0–3 in the source description) for up to 10 hours a day (Mon–Sat 9:00–19:00, Sun 9:00–13:00) and children from 3 years for up to 10.5 hours a day in the Happy-Club (daily 9:00–19:30). Teenagers get at least 30 hours of activities per week during the school holidays. The Badewelt water world has separate indoor pools for adults, children and babies (baby pool 31 °C), a family wave slide 30 m long and 2 m wide, and an outdoor pool heated to 28 °C all year round. The source description lists 89 apartments ranging from 30–120 m². All-inclusive covers breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, cake, ice cream, soft drinks, wine and a baby buffet with jarred food; massages plus riding and swimming lessons cost extra. Hotel Hochsauerland 2010 has the largest hotel pool in the village at 20 × 10 m, water temperature 28 °C, set within roughly 1,000 m² of spa space. Families stay in the Familienzimmer Komfort of around 32 m² (2 adults and 2 children), the Familienzimmer Panorama of around 48 m², or the holiday apartment of around 140 m² sleeping up to 8 people.
Göbel’s Landhotel focuses on a Kids Club with games, books and creative activities, plus a playground, a family-friendly swimming pool, armbands and children’s bathrobes, along with cots, high chairs and changing facilities. On selected family packages, children up to 9 years stay free.
The Sauerland Stern Hotel is the largest property in the region with 506 rooms. The Kinder-Eldorado, an indoor play hall right next to the pool entrance, is open daily from 9:00–21:00, with an activity programme during advertised holiday periods. Pool, sauna area and gym are included in the room rate, and an adjoining leisure world covers around 1,200 m². Families fit into the Privilegzimmer of 45 m² with three sofa beds. If budget matters most, the Sunday Hotel Willingen in the Usseln district has family rooms of around 42 m² and an indoor pool included in the rate.

Anyone hoping to combine a couples’ spa break with a family holiday in one trip runs into a limit in Willingen. Only the Familotel Sonnenpark separates the two physically: the Atlantis family sauna area with a bio sauna (60 °C), Finnish sauna (90 °C), steam bath and infrared cabin is open to everyone, while the Sonnenpark Spa of 600 m² over 2 floors (daily 10:00–22:30) is, according to the hotel, reserved for adult guests, though it can be used with the whole family on request. Atlantis has three saunas/steam baths and the parents’ spa at least four, making at least seven documented in total. Infrared cabins are counted separately.
Fürst von Waldeck, Best Western Plus and Sauerland Stern publish rules for children or minimum ages. At Hotel Fürst von Waldeck, children under 14 years may use the pool and sauna only when accompanied by an adult; the sauna there usually runs from 15:00–19:00. The Best Western Plus Hotel Willingen states children’s swimming times of 9:00–20:00, while the sauna area opens only at 16:00.
Sauerland Stern Hotel publishes a minimum sauna age of 16. At hotels without a documented rule, ask about children’s hours and age limits before booking. Published sauna hours are Sporthotel Zum Hohen Eimberg noon–9 pm, Romantik Hotel Stryckhaus 1–9:30 pm and Waldhaus am See 4–9 pm. Ask specifically if you want to visit with children or find a quiet hour without children.
The public Lagunen-Erlebnisbad is open daily from 9:00–23:00 (last admission 21:00) and offers 940 m² of water surface with natural brine water, indoor brine pools at 32 °C, a whirlpool at 34 °C and a slide park with three slides. For the youngest there is a children’s pool at 32 °C without brine, with a small slide and a water channel with a boat. A day ticket for swimming costs from € 18 for adults, from € 14 for young people aged 7–16 and from € 5 for children aged 2–6; under 2 years entry is free. The family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 young people) costs from € 36 for 2 hours and from € 55 for a full day. Worth knowing when planning: children aged 2–6 are not admitted to the sauna world, while a youth rate applies from age 7. At weekends and on public holidays a surcharge of from € 2 per person applies.
The visitor’s tax (Kurbeitrag, a local charge per overnight stay) in Willingen is from € 3 per person per night. Children under 14 are exempt.
